Dharamsala, July 31 – Three people died yesterday evening after they drowned in a septic tank underneath a shop and hotel owned by Tibetan at the McLeod Ganj main square. According to the police, they died of asphyxiation.
The Tibetan owner of Lhasa hotel, had hired the service of a local contractor who brought the three Indian labourers to clean the septic tank located underneath Mandala Boutique adjacent to the hotel. One of them slipped and fell into the tank, and the other two, while trying to save their friend, also fell into the tank that is said to be at least ten feet in depth, bystanders watching the police and firemen in operation said.
Both Lhasa hotel and the Mandala Boutique are owned by the same person who has given them on lease to other Tibetans.
Police and firemen took nearly five hours to bring out the dead bodies of the three men.
All shops in the town remained closed till noon today to mourn the death of the three men.
